Back to civilisation today as we track South down towards Adelaide and the Barossa Valley for more wine tasting (I hope there are other places in the world where we can both share our hobbies so well!).

Most of the area South of Coober Pedy is covered by Restricted Areas. This is because the UK setup a large Nuclear and Missile testing area here in the 50s and 60s at Woomera. It seems this area can still be quite active as the day we were due to fly through it there were a few NOTAMS out preventing flights through the area. A quick phone call to the Tower at Woomera gave us permission to track to Olympic Dam rather than Woomera, and pass about 15nm away from the active stuff going on! We had a good look out but couldn't really see anything too secretive while flying past!

Onwards down into Adelaide the weather got worse and worse. The route into the GA airport in Adelaide is quite hard from the North, again due to Military taking large chunks of the airspace. Anyway we ended up getting in to the airport in Special VFR conditions at about 500ft altitude. There were some pretty high smoke stacks by a power station just on our track, so it made for an interesting approach into the field and one that has probably prepared me for the worst of the weather back in the UK!
